Presidential Summer Reading

If you were to recommend summer reading for Indonesian presidential candidates, what are two books you want them to read?

My recommendation:
#1. Capitalism and Freedom by Milton Friedman, to help them comprehend how market economy works, even if they eventually dislike it.
#2. Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger, to remind them how being phony can be so sickening for others.

What's yours?

  1. Mine will be:
    1. Political Ideologies: An Introduction by Andrew Heywood. I want the candidates truly understand what is the meaning of neo-liberalism
    2. Max Havelaar by Multatuli. I want the candidates understand that sometime the 'devil' that make Indonesia less prosperous could be people from our own country not the foreigner.

  2. This is an easy question

The answer ought to be this book: Principle of Economics, written by Greg Mankiw. I think it will help the candidates to understand the economy better, and what really needs to be done as well. A must-read book, especially for Prabowo Subianto and Megawati Soekarnoputri.

They call themselves Mega-Pro? I would prefer to call them Gawat-Bow.

  4. Unfortunately, one of the vp candidates took Anonymous' advice too literally. He returned to his old ways and started to kidnap his fellow countrymen - the 'devils'- whom he accused of making Indonesia less prosperous.

How everyone wished he had read principle of economics instead.

  5. I'd recommend they read Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There to see absurdity and logic at its best.

Plus, wouldn't be fun if they recite Jabberwocky every time they go on stage, Zal? :D

  6. Pasha, you mean to perform like my favorite JabbaWockeeZ on the stage? That'd be cool.
